Digitizing books, one registration at a time
Thanks to an awesome tip from ideaphile wzartv, we just implementedreCAPTCHA on the registration page.
Akismet keeps us pretty spam-free around here, but the registration spam drives me batty. Usually I’m against captcha programs as obnoxious, but this one uses scans of old books, newspapers, etc. as the sources for the words… by typing them in, you help the folks at reCAPTCHA digitize those documents. They’re currently working on old editions of the New York Times.
Hopefully this will allow us to continue to communicate as humans, and still cut down on the garbage registrations (thus saving me time), and as an added bonus we’ll get to help the world save old books.
